Hirohama Yoshio was born in Mie Prefecture.
Graduated from Kyoto University (1922), studied in France, Germany, and U.S. (from 1927 to 1929), practiced law at Nagoya.
Became assistant professor of Tohoku University (1924), appointed professor of same university where he held chair of science of law, also taught as instructor at Kyoto University (1937 to 1943). Left university as one of those in teaching profession affected by purge directive (1947), practiced law at Nagpya, depurged (1951), appointed honorary professor of Tohoku University and received degree in laws (1952).
Published numerous books and theses. Made great contribution to world jurisprudence in this country by conducting extensive and systematic researches on various schools of empirical jurisprudence. Also credited with awakening world of jurisprudence to importance of law education and civic education.
