Graduated from the Middle School Department of Doshisha University, Kyoto.
Worked as a local newspaper reporter, in 1918 entered the Kaizo Publishing Company and after one year, started writing novels. In 1938, received the Shincho prize for the novel "Light of Asakusa". Many of his novels are based on the Asakusa district in Tokyo. Another of his well-known novels is Asakusa no Hada (Skin of Asakusa.)
