It is an outstanding book from both the scientific and spiritual points of view. It is the unique record of the pioneering experiments which presents clear, electro-physiological evidence of the existence of the network of chakras and nadis which form the infra-structure of the subtle energies existing in the pranic and psychic dimensions, which underlie and activate the physical, material body of man. The experiments in the book successfully integrate the subjective and objective dimensions of knowledge, and will serve as guideposts and blueprints for experiments in the years ahead. The chakras and other components of the human energy field were largely brought to the attention of the Western world by clairvoyant Charles W. Leadbeater. His pioneering work is discussed in detail in this fascinating exploration of the subtle body, along with that of other respected seers and yogis.

Motoyama, Hiroshi was born on December 15, 1925 in Tonosho-machi, Japan. Arrived in the United States, 1977.
Graduate, Tokyo U. Literature & Science, 1951; Doctor of Philosophy, Tokyo U. Literature & Science, 1962.
Dr. Motoyama's philosophical system is based on his experiences of meditation. His philosophy is based on the idea that no individual philosophical system is without its faults. Because of this, his philosophy appears to be an eclectic blend of seemingly disparate philosophies, but this is far from the case.
Because of the attention to detail found in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Dr. Motoyama emphasizes the eight steps of yogic training. Borrowing from Nishida, Dr. Motoyama uses the term "basho to define the field that sustains being itself. This basho is beyond the categories of being/non-being and birth/death.
One who abandons individuality itself becomes a basho-being by completely annihilating themselves. Thus, basho-being is roughly synonymous with "buddha." The basho is the limit of and that which sustains our universe, beyond which, Dr. Motoyama states, is God.
