Hitomi Takagaki was born on January 20, 1898 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
He graduated from English Literature Department of Waseda University (1920).
He was active as member of Literature Section of Shinkokugekidan (New National Dramatic Company) headed by Shojiro Sawada.
Later he began writing novels for boys and girls. As writer of long adventure novels intended specially for young boys, he produced many works, which, starting with "Eyes of Leopard" (1915), included such stories as Maboroshijo (Phantom Castle); Kaiketsu Kumzukin (Hero in Black Hood); Benihakobe (Pink Chickwood); Куоryu-по Ashioto (Sound of Dinosaur's Footsteps); Kokui Kenkyo (Swordsman in Black), all of which caused the blood of his younger readers to tingle.
As typical melodramatic storyteller, he followed tradition handed down through ages by Bakin Takizawa, Shunro Oshikawa and Suiin Emi and it is he who gave direction to serial adventure novels in children's magazine.
