Hodo Ueda was born in 1892 in Osaka, Japan.
Hodo Ueda studied under Tozan Nakao.
Hodo Ueda eventually became an instructor of Tozan school of shakuhachi music. Later he founded and became headmaster of Ueda school in 1917. Besides playing, composed his own music. Among his popular tunes are Ochiba (Fallen Leaves) and Yuki-no-yo (A Snowy Night).
