Hoko Hayashi was born in 1644.
Was appointed Daigaku-no-kami, or head of the Shogunate’s Confucian college (1661). Helped his father compile Honeho Tsugan, an outline of Japanese history. Although the Hayashi family attracted many Confucian students its prestige waned gradually as such scholars as Jun-an Kino- shita, Hakuseki Arai and Kyuso Muro were employed by the Shogunate government.
