Hong Hao was born in 1965 in Beijing, China.
Hong Hao studied printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the late 1980s.
After primarily using printmaking techniques the artist began working with photography in 1999, and, in 2001, began his most well-known series, My Things. In this series of work, Hong explored the development of Chinese consumer culture through his own life and acquisitions.
Hong Hao currently lives and works in Beijing, China. Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, among others.
