Her elder brother is former Senator John Davison "Jay" Rockefeller IV (born 1937). Hope pursued a career in journalism and has worked for Long Island"s Newsday, Beijing"s China Daily, New York"s The Village Voice, and the Washington Monthly. She worked for the Santa Fe Reporter in the 1980s before she bought the newspaper and became its publisher.
She continues to reside in New Mexico and as of 1996, Hope was New Mexico"s third wealthiest resident.
