Ichian Tanaka was born in 1893 in Tokyo, Japan. He had a genial painting style and is good at painting sceneries, flowers and animals.
He studied under Fuko Matsumoto (1909).
Exhibited his works at exhibitions of Sengakai and Kojigakai Patrons' associations for painters and he was nominated judge of Kenseikai Art Exhibition. He made sketching tour to Kongdzan (Kumgang Mountain in Korea) (1917), later he became associated with Shunyokai Patrons' Association for Artists.
Upon recommendation he became member of staff of Japan Nanga (Southern School of Chinese painting) Academy (1929). At Education Ministry's second Arts Exhibition, exhibited Sen-en (The Hermit's Garden) (1988). He became judge at Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (1960) and was commissioned painter of that exhibition.
Besides exhibiting works at government sponsored exhibitions, he displayed paintings at Fine Arts Association's exhibitions
