While in school, was a marathon runner. Studied in Chuo University but left without finishing the whole course.
Career
Became interested in politics when elected to the Tokyo Municipal and Prefectural Assemblies. He served as secretary to Minister of Finance Tanzan Ishibashi and then elected to the House of Representatives six times. An old type of politician, and faithful supporter of former Prime Minister Ichiro Hatoyama. President of the Japan Oxygen and Hydrogen Company.
