Also professor, Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies. From 1934 professor, from 1956 head, Chair of History of Middle East, Moscow University. From 1943 senior associate, from 1957 head, Section of Indian History, Institute of Oriental Studies, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
Specialized in Indian commune, movement of peasants and artisans and Indian national-liberation movement. Did valuable studies of modern Afghan history.
