Igor Mikhailovich graduated from the piano department of the Krasnodar Music College (1967), faculty of actors of the musical theater of the A.V. Lunacharsky (now Russian Academy of Theatre Arts) (1974).
in 1988, he became director of the Voronezh State Opera and Ballet Theater. Under Nepomniachtchi the theater was one of the five best opera groups in the country, and in 2010 it was recognized as the National Treasure of Russia.
