An inn-keeper in San jo Kawa - ra-machi m Kyoto. He was a man OT gallant spirit who revered the Imperial House. Was much favored by Ryoma Sakamoto, a loyalist samurai of the Tosa (Kochi) Clan. It was on the second floor of his inn that Sakamoto and other loyalists were killed by Shogunate police in 1867. After this incident, Shinsuke, together with his younger brother Kosaburo, worked hard for the cause of the Restoration.
