Ikunosuke Shirataki was born in 1873 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
First studied art at the private school of Hosui Yamamoto (1890) and then became a pupil of Kiyoteru Kuroda and was among the second group of students who graduated from Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts (1898).
Joined the Hakubakai (White Horse Society) and then proceeded to Europe and America for further studies (1904-1910). Was appointed a judge for Ministry of Education's art exhibitions.
