In Soo Kim

Background

In Kim was born on November 23, 1943, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He is the son of Young Soon (an architect) and Ock Ja (Han) Kim.

Education

Kim attended Presbyterian Theological Seminary and graduated as a Master of Divinity in 1969. Later he studied at Dubuque Theological Seminary and became a Master of Sacred Theology in 1975. He attended Union Theological Seminary in Virginia in order to receive a Doctor of Philosophy in 1993.

Career

Kim served in the Korean Army, as a chaplain and, later, as a captain. In 1982 he became a professor and dean of the Graduate School of Ministry at Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea.

Achievements

• Kim is a great educator and author. His book, Protestants and the Formation of Modern Korean Nationalism, discusses how Protestantism stimulated and encouraged the people to form their nationalism through two eminent Protestant leaders, Rev. Horace G. Underwood, the first Presbyterian missionary to Korea and Rev. Sun Chu Kil, the first native minister in Korea.

Kim married Jung Sook Chung on May 22, 1970. They have two children: Soo Jin, Hye Jin.
