Ino Kanori began his education at Nisho Gakusha School, Tokyo (1885) and the following year moved to Prefectural Normal School. Without firosning school left for Tokyo and joined the Mainichi Shimbun. Began studying anthropology under Shogoro Tsuboi (1893) and two years laTer together with Tatsuzo Torii founded a society for the study of anthropology.
Ino Kanori began collecting material and conducting research in the country's political economy, geography, history and folklore. Stayed in Formosa for ten years. After returning home devoted himself to literary study. Was an able linguist and could speak Formosan, Malayan, Korean and Ainu fluently. His papers on the tribal classification of aborigines was well received by scientific circles. Among his works is "A Study of Formosan Culture."
