(A massive, extensively illustrated work constituting a ri...)
A massive, extensively illustrated work constituting a rich survey and synthesis of scholarship on the Homeric question. Dr. Shear demonstrates that the origins of the tales, which later came to be known as the Iliad and the Odyssey, are to be found in the Bronze Age. She reexamines ancient references to Homer, the Iliad and the Odyssey, giving us a new understanding of the circumstances which led to the transcriptions of the texts we have today. The book is produced in a large format, is lavishly illustrated with over 150 photographs, drawings and plans, and includes footnotes, a bibliography and extensive indices.

( Domestic architecture at the site of Mycenae was system...)
Domestic architecture at the site of Mycenae was systematically explored for the first time in a series of investigations sponsored by the Archaeological Society of Athens and Washington University in St. Louis between 1962 and 1966 and again in 1977. The work revealed a block of houses in the area north of the Treasury of Atreus, the so-called Panagia Houses. The author describes the artifacts and reconstructed floor plans, and draws comparisons with other Bronze Age sites.
