Ippo Nishizawa was born in 1801. His given name was Risuke. Grandson of Ippu.
Ippo Nishizawa operated the publishing and book-lending business in Osaka inherited from his father. Visited Edo in 1843. After he returned to Osaka, he handed over his publishing business to his brother-in-law and devoted himself to writing books about the stage. Many of his plays were adaptions from old ones or based on contemporary novels. Although he was well known for his knowledge about the stage usages and practices, he was not a good researcher, having been handicapped by a lack of learning.
