Bachelor of Science (agriculture), M. A (English), M. A (Labor Management), Master of Science (Psychology), M B A., Hindi (Praveen,)Doctor of Philosophy (Business Administration)and Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature (parallels in the works of Thiruvalluvar and Shakespeare).
He has written over 30 books in both Tamil and English. In his first Civil Services Examination he got Indian Revenue Service and trained as Income tax Assistant Commissioner. In 1987 civil services examination, he got 15th rank in all India level and first place in Tamil Nadu.
After his training in Lal Bahadur Sastri National Academy of Administration, he became sub collector in 1990.
He was the District collector of Kancheepuram District (1997–1999). He had previously worked as Principal Secretary to the Government for Tamil Nadu Environment and Forests Department, Tamil Nadu Tourism and Culture department & Chairman of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation.
He is currently the Principal Secretary to the Department of Economics and Statistics.
