At age 19 arrested for belonging to a high-school circle which published the manuscript periodical Bratstvo. From 1904 until the establishment of Soviet regime in Siberia member, Socialist-Revol Party. 1907-1912 in exile; 1903 first work printed.
His works deal with the life of Northern peoples. Civil War in Siberia, and the country’s industrialization and collectivization. Arrested by People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs.
