Career
Ishii Busshin was the proprietor of a restaurant named Iseya in the precinct of the Hachiman Shrine in Fukagawa, Edo. After Tadakuni Mizuno, Minister of the Shogunate, introduced economy measures (1841) he gave up the shop and took to painting under the name of Otsueshi Busshin. He originated the Otsue style of painting.
