Ishii Kan was a disciple of Tsudayu, joruri reciter, and made his stage debut in Bunrakuza Theatre under the name of Tsu Komadayu.
Ishii Kan made a brief appearance on the screen. Founded Shinsei Shimpa (new actors' association) (1940). Retired from the stage (1948), but made a come-back after the war on the stage of Meijiza Theatre when it was opened (1950). Is best known for his role as Takeya (heroine) of the play, Taki-no Shiraito.
