Isomura Toyotaro worked for a while as a newspaperman, then instructor at his alma mater till he joined the business world as an employe of Bank of Japan, and then entered the Mitsui group. He was their branch manager in London, then recalled to reform the Hokkaido Coal Mining Company, after which he became its president. He was not a mere employe of Mitsui's and his ranking with them was almost that of a feudal lord in the Mitsui group. Was also a director of several other companies. Isomura Toyotaro was member of Tokyo Chamber of Commerce, managing director of Japan Industrial Club.
