Iurii Churbanov, USSR State security official.


Churbanov, Iurii was born in 1936.


Graduated from Moscow University in 1964.


As a first year student, became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. After graduating, promoted to Lieutenant-general holding top positions in the Komsomol, 1957-1970. Deputy Chief of the Police Dept, in the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs 1970-1971.

Deputy Chief of Police Administration of the Security Police Force (Interior ministry troops), 1971-1975. Member of the Central Auditing Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1976-1981. Candidate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1981.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, 1977-1980. First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for State Security,1980. Assigned to Galina Brezhneva as her security guard.

Married her (her third husband). Brezhnev quickly promoted him after the marriage. Arrested by Committee for State Security officers in 1986 (some believe on Gorbachev’s personal order) and tried in 1988 for corruption and accepting bribes totalling hundreds of thousands of roubles.


Religious leaders contribute to secular and religious wars by endorsing or supporting the violence.


The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
