Widely known in the 1960s in samizdat for his poem, Tovarishch Stalin. Vy Bolshoi Uchenyi (Comrade Stalin, You are a Great Scientist), also for his short stories Nikolai Nikolaevich and Maskirovka (published later in the USA, 1980). Became famous in America, to where he emigrated in the early 1970s, for his stories Ruka (Hand, 1981) and Kenguru, 1981.
Contributor to the Moscow almanac Metropol together with V. Aksenov, A. Bitov and others. Lives in Connecticut.
