1909-1916 member, Rumanian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party. 1910-1912 co-ed, Social-Democratic newspaper Rominia muncitoare. 1911-1913 published atheist journal Ratiune.
During World War 1 served as an ensign, was wounded and deserted from Royal Rumanian Army. April 1917 jouned Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) in Petrograd. November 1917-January 1918 and May 1918-April 1919 worked for Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs.
February-May 1918 secretary, Rumanian MilRevol Committee, Odessa. April 1919-December 1920 fought in Civil War. Political comissar on Eastern, Turkestani and Southwestern fronts.
Helped to form international detachments of Red Army and to organize foreign Communist Party cells and groups. Met Lenin; January-November 1921 head, Balkan Section, Staff Registration Board, Revol-Military Council. 1922-1937 teaching and research work in Moscow.
Wrote numerous works on statistics and building calculations. Arrested by State Security organs.
