1920 first work published. Portrayed peasant life and kolkhoz reforms. Various works devoted to general “socialist” reforms and “class” struggle, changes in life of urban population and even fate of “Withe emigration”.
Works noted for poignant narrative and profound psychological analysis. Criticized by Party for portraying individualism and passiveness of peasantry. After 1936 arrested by People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs.
