Ivan Sorokin is a Soviet and Russian artist. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1990).
Background
Ivan Sorokin was born on May 21, 1922, in the village of Gavrilovskoye, Russian Federation. In 1930, with his family moved to Moscow, where he lived in the 2-nd Volkonsky Lane, near Samotychnaya Square, he studied at the school on the street Sadovaya, on the site of which in 1970 was built the Obraztsov Theater.
Education
In 1939 in Moscow, Kalyaevskaya Street opened a secondary art school and after the second attempt Sorokin was admitted to the 5th grade, to the teacher Vasily Pochitalov. He studied with Heliy Arkadiev, future artist-producer of animated films. In 1940, for the composition "Crossing the Cavalry Army" received the first prize.
In September 1941 the school was evacuated to Bashkiria, to the village Voskresenskoye. In the summer of 1942, with other older students, Ivan was drafted into the army. In 1943 he graduated from the military school in Bolshev on the specialty miner-demolisher and went to the front as a lieutenant. Was located near Vitebsk, in the assault brigade, when in 1944, with the front line, he was recalled to the Grekov Military Artists Studio by the Main Political Department.
Career
From the studio as a military artist, he went to the fronts in Leningrad, Finland, Norway, Poland, Germany. Created on drawings and etudes works were exhibited at exhibitions of military and post-war years. Particularly impressive was the picture "Danzig. 1945 ". Impressions of the war years formed the basis of the picture "Year forty-fifth. Home to Russia".
In the autumn of 1945, the studio Grekova sent to study at the Moscow Art Institute named after V. Surikov. In 1952 he graduated from the Moscow Art Institute, workshop of S. Gerasimov.
In 1953, Sorokin went on a trip along the Yenisey and Angara with the artist V.Stozharov and together with him organized the first solo exhibition. In the same year, he was admitted to the Union of Artists of the USSR. Went to virgin lands of Kazakhstan with artists V. Stozharov and V. Zakharkin, to Arkhangelsk, to Novaya Zemlya, participated in the 3rd exhibition of young artists of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, in the 3rd exhibition of works by young artists of Moscow and Moscow region Academy of Arts of the USSR. In 1958-59 he worked in Dagestan with the artist V.Tsigal. Since 1959 he has been a regular participant of republican and all-Union exhibitions. Ivan Sorokin died in 2004. He was buried in Moscow at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.
