Graduated from the medical faculty of St. George's University (1894).
Head of the department of surgery (since 1895), medical director (since 1927) of the Obukhov hospital in St. Petersburg, on the basis of which in 1932 he organized a medical institute. At the same time professor of the psychoneurological institute (since 1915). Deputy Chairman (since 1911), Chairman (since 1919), Honorary Chairman (since 1920) of the Surgical Society named after N.I. Pirogov. In 1903 he made the wounds of the heart.
The first in Russia (1909) introduced the method of disinfection of the operating field with iodine tincture, performed an operation to remove the pancreas (1913). In 1928 he made an autopsy of the heart cavity, one of the first in the country to create an artificial esophagus.
The main researches were devoted to surgery of the heart, lungs, large vessels, limbs, wound healing, emergency surgery and others.
Author of more than 150 scientific works. In 1922, Grekov resumed the publication of the journal "Bulletin of Surgery and Border Regions" (currently the "Grekov Journal of Surgery").
