Izan Seki was an outstanding haiku composer in Edo late in the Shogunate Period and early Meiji Era, his rivals including Shunko and Tosai. He was also good at composing kyoka, or satirical waka. His common name was Mizuzo and his other pseudonym Tsukinomoto.
