Background

GELFAND, Izrail was born in 1913 in Krasnye Okny, Odessa Oblast.

Career

1932 instructor, Moscow University. Since 1943 has specialized in the theory of unitary infinite-dimensional representations of contmuous series. His doctor’s thesis dealt with his theory of normalized rings, i. e., linear normalized spaces whose elements can be multiplied in the usual manner.

Has written over 80 works.

Religion

Religion is bad because it gets people to believe something untrue.
