Jack P. Young was born on October 28, 1929 in Huntington, Indiana, United States. He is the son of Jacob P. and Marie (Scully) Young.
Young attended Huntington College (now Huntington University) from 1946 till 1948. Two years later he obtained a Baсhelor of Science degree at Ball State University. In addition, he attended the University of Notre Dame from 1950 to 1951 and received Doctor of Philosophy degree from Indiana University in 1955.
Young was a member of senior research staff of Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1955. Also he was a member of board of directors of Oak Ridge Children’s Museum from 1978 to 1984, serving as a president for 2 years from 1982.
Young had a cooperation with Oak Ridge Arts Council for 4 years from 1982, and with Oak Ridge Music Association from 1994.
In addition, he is a contributor of more than one hundred and fifty articles to scientific journals. He conducts researches on chemistry, paleontology and spectroscopy.
