Career
He was recruited to the Bulldogs from the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup with the sixth selection in the 2012 American Federation of Labor-Congress Draft. He made his debut for the Bulldogs in Round 4 of the 2013 American Federation of Labor-Congress season against Adelaide. Macrae was previously a student at Carey Baptist Grammar School.

Macrae"s 2014 season was one of the best seasons by a 2nd year player in history becoming the youngest player to record 40 or more disposals in a game.
Macrae recorded 30 or more disposals 9 times and recorded 25 or more disposals 15 times. Macrae averaged 26.8 disposals (144 Kicks, 124 Handballs) his stellar season resulted him in finishing runner up in the Western Bulldogs Best & Fairest (Charlie Sutton Medal).
