Cardin received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Georgia in 1958. A year later he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the same university.
Cardin began his career as a management trainee at American Oil Corporation in 1960. Three years later he took a position of a representative of North America at Mettler Instrument Corporation. Also Jackson served as a president of South By Southeast, Inc. from 1973 to 1977. Then in 1977, he was appointed a branch manager at Conticommodity Services. In 1984, Cardin became a president of Active Cycles, Inc.
In 1993, he held a position of a broker at Raymond James Financial Services Inc. A year later Cardin took the same position at ADM Securities, Inc. and Berthel Fisher & Company Financial Services, Inc. in 1998. In 2000, he was a broker at Fiserv Investor Services, Inc. In addition, he held a position of an instructor at the University of Atlanta, Ogletharp University and the University of New Orleans.
Cardin is a member of National Futures Association, New Orleans Board of Trade, Leadership Atlanta Alumni and New Orleans Executive Club.
Cardin married Patricia Pittard in 1959, with whom he divorced in 1981. They have three children. On January 1, 1983 he married Cynthia Buck. They have a child - John Pattison.
