He worked in Belgium, France, and Italy. In 1399, he worked in the building of Milan Cathedral. He apparently had commissions from John, Duke of Berry and Philip the Bold.

The tentative identification of the Boucicaut Master with Jacques Coene from Bruges is now generally disregarded, as recent discoveries show that Coene is documented in Paris from the late 1380s.
