Commissioned Second lieutenant, 5th Cavalry, June 15, 1869. Promoted through grades to colonel, 10th Cavalry, June 9, 1902. Employed chiefly on frontier service until 1880.
Served with Republican River Expedition, 1869, and engaged in affair on Prairie Dog Creek, and in Ute Expedition during fall and winter of 1879.
Was instructor at United States Military Academy, 1883-1887. On frontier duty Indiana Ty. and Texas, 1887-1897.
Instructor Infantry and Cavalry School, 1897-1899, 1901-1902. In Philippines, 1899-1901.
On duty in Nebraska, 1902-1907, in Philippines, April 2, since 1907.
Married Katherine J. Dodge, November 14, 1872.
