Brought to the United States, 1893. Bachelor of Arts, College City of New York, 1902. Master of Forestry, Yale, 1905; traveled and studied in most important botanical gardens, parks, forests, American and Europe.
With United States Forest Service, under Gifford Pinchot, 1905-1906. Forester in charge Brooklyn (New York) and Queens parks, 10 1/2 years. Chief forester City of New York to May 1917.
Now consultant forester, Sea Cliff, Long Island, in general charge of many large estates of Long Island and vicinity, including those of H. M. Lehman, Otto H. Kahn, Gilbert Kahn, Walter P. Chrysler, C. Oliver Iselin, William L. Harkness, Nicholas P. Brady, H. L. Pratt.
Also of Greenwood Cemetery and other organizations and developing new estates and ornamental woodlands. Responsible for development of Marshall Field Place, Long Island, and many similar estates.
Lecturer on ornamental and shade trees Yale University Forest School, The New School for Social Research.
Member council University, New York City, Brooklyn Institute Arts and Sciences, colleges, civic organizations, et cetera Forester for American Association for Planting and Preservation of City Trees. Senior fellow Am, Institute of Park Executives.

Recognized as an authority on naturalistic planting, developing and maintaining private places and on town development.
