He graduated from Saint-Petersburg Forestry Institute (1904).
Nikolai Petrovich worked as an assistant forester in the forest areas of Oryol, Chernihiv and Kursk Governorates. He was a teacher at Lisinski Forest School of Petersburg Governorate since 1906; the head of the Mariupol experimental forest district of the Yekaterinoslav Governorate since 1911. He was a professor since 1916, principal (1918-1919), the initiator of the foundation of the forest department, the 1st Head of the Department of Forestry, the 1st Dean of the Faculty of Forestry (1923-1925) of Voronezh State Agricultural Institute.
At the same time, the head of the Voronezh Experimental Station, the head of the Voronezh Provincial Forestry Department. He was a professor of the Department of Private and Agro-forestry since 1925, dean of the Faculty of Forestry (1936-1937) of Leningrad Forestry Academy.
He is the author of the 1st in the USSR specialized book on forest selection ("Selektsiya duba" Moscow, 1925).
