CARDOZO, Jacob Newton was born in 1786 in Georgia, United States of America.
A critic of both Malthus and Ricardo, chiefly on the grounds that their theories did not fit American circumstances. In his view, the Ricardian
theory of distribution did not sufficiently take into account the potential for expansion of manufacturing, and the Malthusian tendency of population growth to outstrip the food supply was merely a product of the imperfect social conditions of the Old World. He was a strong supporter of free trade.
