Jacqueline Braveboy-Wagner was born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She is the daughter of Kenneth S. Braveboy, an educator, and Josephine (Mudie) Braveboy, an educator.
In 1970 Jacqueline Braveboy-Wagner graduated from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received a Master of Science of that institution in 1974. In 1979 she received a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Arizona.
Jacqueline Braveboy-Wagner started her career as an assistant professor of political science at the Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio from 1979 - 1981. In 1983 she became a coordinator of Latin American program at the Friends World College (now Long Island University Global) and worked for a year. In 1984 she was appointed an associate professor at the City College of the City University of New York and worked in this position until 1991. In 1991 Braveboy-Wagner became a professor of political science.
From 1984 - 1991 she served as an associate professor at the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York and became a professor in 1991. Jacqueline was an editor of Caribbean Studies Newsletter from 1986 to 1991. In 1988 Braveboy-Wagner was a visiting professor at the Tokyo Metropolitan University. Professor Braveboy-Wagner has been a fellow at, and assistant to, the director of training of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. She served as Director of the Master of Arts program in international relations at the City College from January 1999 - 2002. She has been a consultant for the United Nations/Caribbean Community, United States agencies, and Caribbean and Latin American government/intergovernmental organizations.

2008Jacqueline Braveboy-Wagner is a member of the International Studies Association. In 1996 she was appointed as a member of governing council. She is a member of the Caribbean Studies Association. From 1986 to 1991 Braveboy-Wagner was a member of executive board and served as a president from 1992 to 1993.
Jacqueline Braveboy-Wagner married Jeffrey P. Wagner, a company president. They have two children: Justin and Jeremy.
