Pearl Kibre was born on September 2, 1900, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Jane DuPlone Kibre. She had a sister Adele Kibre and a brother Walter Kibre.
Pearl Kibre attended Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California in 1924 and a Master of Arts degree in 1925. In 1936 she received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Columbia University.
Pearl Kibre was a research assistant to professor Lynn Thorndike at Columbia University from 1929 till 1937. Then she went to Brooklyn College and was an instructor in history till 1938. At Hunter College, she began as an instructor in history in 1939 and later became a professor working on this position till the end of her life. She had been holding the position of the professor of history at Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York from 1964 till 1971 and then became professor emeritus. In 1971-1973 Perl Kibre was a co-chair at Columbia University Seminar in Legal and Political Thought as well.
Pearl Kibre's writings include The Library of Pico della Mirandola (1936), The Nations in the Mediaeval Universities (1948), Scholarly Privileges in the Middle Ages: The Rights, Privileges, and Immunities of Scholars and Universities at Bologna, Padua, Paris and Oxford (1961), A Catalogue of Incipits of Mediaeval Scientific Writings in Latin (1937), Studies in Medieval Science: Alchemy, Astrology, Mathematics and Medicine (1984), Hippocrates Latinus: Repertorium of Hippocratic Writings in the Latin Middle Age (1985). She was also a contributor of articles to scholarly journals, including Speculum, Isis, and American Historical Review, and a co-editor of Osiris in 1956.
