He studied architecture in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts.
About 1830 he migrated to America (in company with an older brother) and established residence in New Orleans.
His first recorded work, the old St. Louis Hotel with its magnificent dome and richly decorated interior was also his architectural masterpiece, built between 1835 and 1840, it stood until 1911. In addition Mr. de Pouilly is believed to have designed the old Citizens Bank on Toulouse Street (no longer standing, St. Augustine’s Church, and the present facade and Sanctuary of the old Cathedral, all in New Orleans.
