Armstrong, James was born on July 4, 1834 in Candor, New York, United States. Son of Henry and Elizabeth (Cady) Armstrong.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Hobart College, 1856, A.M., 1871 (Doctor of Laws, 1906).

Career

Admitted to bar, 1858. Practiced at Davenport, Iowa, 1858-1873. Collector of internal revenue, 2d Iowa District, under Presidents Johnson and Grant.

One of incorporators of 1st National Bank of Davenport, the 1st bank to open its doors for business under banking act of 1863. In practice at New York, since 1873. In charge of law and collection business of H. B. Claflin & Company, 1873-1876.

Senior member Armstrong, Brown & Boland. President Mortgage Holding Company Trustee Hobart College.
