James W. Bennett

James Bennett was born in 1942.

Education

James Bennett got Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating from Wesleyan University in 1964. Two years later, in 1966, he started to attend graduate school at Illinois State University.

Career

Bennett’s experiences as an intern for a local newspaper during his undergraduate studies in Illinois prompted his first thoughts of becoming a writer.

He worked as a teacher of creative writing at a community college until 1976.

During the period from 1983 to 1995 Bennett served as an aide to high school-aged, mentally handicapped students in Bloomington, Illinois. He also held the post of a writer-in-residence for Illinois secondary schools.

Achievements

• Bennett received the 1995’s Finest YA Novel designation for "The Squared Circle" book.
