James C. Glass

Background

James C. Glass was born on September 20, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, to Chester E. and Jeanette Glass.

Education

Glass studied at the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. Also, he graduated from California State University, in Northridge, with Master of Science degree, and the University of Nevada, in Reno, with a Ph.D. degree.

Career

James C. Glass had a long career as a physicist before turning to science fiction writing. He worked on various engine systems at the well-known company Rocketdyne, then for three and a half decades taught physics, headed the department and was Dean at North Dakota State University and Eastern University (Washington). The result of his activity is more than 70 scientific papers, covering the fields of molecular biophysics and superconductivity.

His first published story was in Aboriginal S.F. He retired from his academic job in 1999 and now writes full time.

Achievements

• James C. Glass is most commonly known as the contributor to science fiction publications, including Analog, Midnight Zoo, Hardboiled, Eldritch Tales, Aboriginal Science Fiction, and Fantastic Worlds.
  
  In 1990, the physicist published the story "Jet Dancer", which brought him fame, and became the winner of the annual contest of young science fiction writers "Writers of the Future."
