Deacon, 1882, priest, 1887, Protestant Episcopal Church. At Lawrenceville. Virginia, since 1882, founder, 1888, and principal St. Paul Normal and Industrial School (colored). Arch-deacon of colored work in Southern Virginia.

Elected suffragan bishop Diocese of Arkansas, 1917 (declined), also of North Carolina, 1918 (declined).
