From the Preface, by the Rev. Canon James E. Hulbert: I commend this book, "Regent of the Sun," to the church at large with the hope that it will prove to be both an inspiration and edification to all who move through these pages. It is a partial historical record of one parish written with great skill in weaving events of parish life into the larger historical climate over a period of 85 years. I hope that it will be received by a wide audience of our present communicants, both within the parish and outside. Many will find our past history of inestimable value as we, moving into the last decade of this century, stand dedicated to continuing our commitment and loyalty to Our Lord and His Holy Church. When the vestry of this parish authorized publication, we could not have been more blessed than to have the project undertaken by the Rev James B Simpson who deserves our praise and gratitude.

( The first comprehensive book on the art and architectur...)
The first comprehensive book on the art and architecture of the Anglican (Episcopal) Church, will serve to many as an eye-opener that will dazzle and excite the senses and the mind. The Anglican Church has some of the greatest works of religious art in the world, but these treasures have not been widely publicized. Much of it is hidden away in nooks and crannies of small churches across the globe. With the tenacity of detectives, Simpson and Eatman have uncovered and present to us here a treasury of startlingly beautiful work. A Treasury of Anglican Art features eight centuries of exquisite art and architecture, glorious works fashioned from the finest materials available, resulting in delicate fabrics, fine stained glass, icons, illuminated manuscripts, metalwork, mosaics, paintings, sculpture, and works in wood. Masterpieces from such old masters as Rubens and Canaletto are represented; as are great works from more modern artists, such as John Singer Sargent, N.C. Wyeth, Graham Sutherland, Sir Basil Spence, Sir Jacob Epstein, Edward Burne-Jones, A.W.N. Pugin, L.C. Tiffany, H.H. Richardson, and Henry Moore.
