Commissioned Second lieutenant United States Army, 1979, advanced through grades to major. Assistant professor history United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, 1989-1992. Retired United States Army, 1995.

Instructor history Marion (Alabama) Military Institute, 1995-1996, Judson College, Marion, 1996-1999, University Montevallo, since 1997, Auburn University, Montgomery, 1999-2000.
