Jana received a B.A. degree from St. Mary of the Woods College in 1963, a M.A. degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1974, a Ph.D. degree from the City University of New York in 1983.
In 1963 Jana was a performer and choreographer for a tour of "Seventeen" at the United Service Organizations. From 1964 till 1965 she was a casting associate at J. Walter Thompson. from 1965 till 1967 she was a casting director at Doyle, Dane, Bernbach. In 1969-1972 she worked as an administrative assistant for advertising and public relations at Guinness-Harp Corp. and as an office manager for Wine Division from 1972 till 1973. In 1974 she was an administrative manager at the Italian Theatre Festival. From 1975 till 1977 she was a founding partner at Images Unlimited (casting consultants). In 1975-1986 she was an instructor in language and literature and in 1981-1987 an academic adviser at the Elizabeth Seton College, Yonkers, NY. She also worked as a lecturer at Drew University, Madison, NJ, York College of the City University of New York, Jamaica, NY, and Hunter College of the City University of New York, New York City (1976-1981). She worked as an adjunct assistant professor in 1980-1985, as an assistant professor in 1985-1994, as an associate professor of speech since 1995 at Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York, New York City. She was also a producer and director of plays produced off-off-Broadway in 1974-1986 and a founding member, producer, writer, and performer at the City University of New York Readers Theatre in 1979-1990. Professor O'Keefe Bazzoni served as Associate Dean of Baruch's Weissman School of Arts and Sciences in 1998-2000 and is currently Chair & Director of Undergraduate Programs of the Department of Communication Studies. She is co-president of The Pirandello Society of America, Society liaison to the Modern Language Association and editor emeritus of PSA, the Society's journal.
