Jane worked for several years on the editing side of publishing. She left a full-time publishing job in order to travel and sail. When she returned, she started editing as a freelancer for various publishers. Jane wrote two books (one on picture framing and one on leatherwork), and while writing for another craft publication, she was asked to turn her drawings into finished art work.
In the beginning, she split her time between freelance editing and a bit of illustration until she found herself an agent in London, in fact her current agent.
Jane was married to Ian Jay, a teacher with whom she had a son, Tom.
